HYDE PARK - The Chalk Walk Festival is a family-friendly, three-day public art display of eye-catching chalk drawings covering the sidewalks of Tampa’s Old Hyde Park Village. The event originated in March 2009 and featured an impressive roster of 25 professional and amateur artists, including the world-famous British artist, Lee Jones.
Thanks to the success of its inaugural event, the Festival will return to the Village in May 2010.
“More than 2,500 people came out to our first Chalk Walk and we expect double this year,” said Christina Cook, general manager of Tampa Bay Businesses for Culture and the Arts (the non-profit organization that coordinates the event). “And this year, we are adding new twists, including a Friday night Battle of the Business Bands.”
In addition to the live art and entertainment, Festival attendees will also be able to enjoy fun food, drink specials and a chance to try out their own sidewalk chalk drawing skills. Lots of art will also be on sale and proceeds from the event will help TBBCA support other artistic and cultural endeavors across Tampa Bay.
